Who is Pavi in Avatar: Seven Havens? The new Avatar, explained

The Avatar is back — and this time, she is nine years old. Pavi is the protagonist of Avatar: Seven Havens, the new Nickelodeon Animation and Avatar Studios series now streaming on Paramount+, and the newest incarnation of the Avatar after Korra. She is a young earthbender, voiced by newcomer Saheli Khan, who discovers she is the next Avatar in a world that does not want one. If you are catching up on Avatar: Seven Havens and want to know who the new Avatar is, here is everything confirmed about Pavi so far.

Book 1, titled “Survival,” premiered on October 9, 2026 with its first three episodes; the remaining ten episodes of the 13-episode season roll out weekly in batches through October 30. Three additional seasons have already been ordered, so Pavi is not a one-season curiosity — she is the face of the franchise’s future.

Who is Pavi? Age, bending, and voice actor

At just 9 years old, Pavi is the youngest Avatar protagonist the franchise has ever centered — Aang was 12 when his story began, and Korra was 17. Her native element is earth: she is an earthbender, continuing the Avatar cycle’s rotation from Korra’s water.

Pavi is voiced by Saheli Khan, a newcomer for whom Seven Havens marks her first major screen role — a bold casting choice for a franchise headliner, and one that puts a fresh voice at the center of its biggest gamble. The casting is deliberate: the show’s principal cast is drawn primarily from South Asian performers, and Pavi herself is a brown-skinned South Asian girl — a visible shift toward a protagonist who looks like millions of viewers rarely centered in big-budget animation.

As the new Avatar after Korra, Pavi carries the weight of a legacy audience will remember. She follows in the footsteps of the Avatar who came before her, Korra — a heroine whose own tenure ended with the world changed forever. Where Korra fought to prove the Avatar still mattered, Pavi will fight to prove the Avatar should exist at all.

Pavi’s family: meet Nisha, her long-lost twin

Pavi is not alone in her journey. Her long-lost twin sister, Nisha (voiced by Aishu Devan), travels with her as the two uncover the mystery of their origins — a thread the show has confirmed is central to Book 1, titled “Survival.”

The twin dynamic is one of the show’s most intriguing choices. The franchise has never built a season around the Avatar having a living twin, and their “strange origins,” as Paramount’s own synopsis puts it, remain deliberately under lock and key. What we know: the sisters were separated, they reunite, and the truth about where they came from is a puzzle the season will unfold slowly.

Traveling with the twins is Jae (Major Curda), an airbender and city guard platoon leader who travels with Pavi and Nisha, and Karthik (Akshay Khanna), the captain of the city guard and Nisha’s guardian. The wider ensemble includes Agam (Sakina Jaffrey), Zi (Dianne Doan), Daemin (Darren Barnet), and Geet and Ruhi, the twins’ pet cat-monkeys voiced by Avatar veteran Dee Bradley Baker — the same voice behind Momo and Appa. Casting details are drawn from Paramount+’s official voice cast announcement (meet the full cast here).

Why Pavi’s leg matters

One of the first things viewers notice about Pavi is that she is missing a leg. Pavi is an amputee — her left leg is replaced by a wooden prosthetic — making her the first disabled Avatar in franchise history.

That is a landmark in disability representation in animation, and it deserves a deeper conversation than a single section can hold — our companion piece on Pavi as the first disabled Avatar goes into the full story. Here is what matters for this guide: the show treats her leg as part of who she is, not as a gimmick. And notably, the series has not yet explained how she lost it. How Pavi lost her leg is an open mystery — the premiere episodes offer no answer, and until the show says otherwise, any backstory floating around online is speculation.

A different kind of Avatar era: feared, not revered

Forget everything you know about how the world treats the Avatar. Avatar: Seven Havens is set roughly 225 years after The Legend of Korra, in the aftermath of a catastrophic cataclysm that shattered civilization. The surviving strongholds — the Seven Havens — rose from the wreckage, and in this new era, the Avatar is feared as humanity’s destroyer rather than welcomed as its savior. The premise, as confirmed by Wikipedia’s series overview, puts Pavi and Nisha at the center of a world that would rather hunt the Avatar than follow her.

That inversion changes everything about Pavi’s story. Where Aang was the last hope of a world at war and Korra was a celebrity bridge between spirits and humans, Pavi is hunted by both human and spirit enemies from the moment her identity surfaces. Her quest — to uncover her origins with Nisha and protect the Seven Havens — begins from a position no Avatar has occupied before: starting at a deficit of trust, with the title itself working against her.

It is the boldest premise swing the franchise has attempted, and it is already fueling the kind of big-picture conversation that makes the Avatar fandom one of the most passionate in animation — debates about legacy, destiny, and what the Avatar title even means anymore.

What we don’t know yet (the open mysteries)

Because only the first episodes are out, several core questions about Pavi remain deliberately unanswered — and the honest answer to each is “the show hasn’t told us yet.” Here is what to watch for:

  • How did Pavi lose her leg? No explanation has been given. Any theory circulating online is speculation until the series addresses it.
  • What are the twins’ true origins? Pavi and Nisha’s backstory is the season’s central mystery, but Book 1 is still unfolding.
  • Why does this world fear the Avatar? A cataclysm happened, and the Avatar is blamed — but the details of what occurred and why are still being revealed.
  • What are the Seven Havens? They are described as the central pillars of civilization risen from the shattered world. Expect the season to map them as Pavi’s journey widens.

The first three episodes — “On the Horizon,” “Into the Storm,” and “The Order” — aired October 9, 2026, with new batches arriving weekly on Fridays through October 30. Every answer the fandom wants is still ahead.

The cast and creators behind Pavi

Pavi’s arrival is shepherded by the people who built the franchise: Seven Havens was created by Michael Dante DiMartino and Bryan Konietzko, the original creators of Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra, who serve as executive producers alongside Ethan Spaulding. The series is produced by Nickelodeon Animation and Avatar Studios, with animation by the French studio La Chouette Compagnie and music from franchise veteran Jeremy Zuckerman.

The art direction takes its cues from French surrealist Mœbius and 1990s anime — a striking, painterly look that sets the post-cataclysm world apart from anything the franchise has shown before. And with Books 2, 3, and 4 all confirmed (Book 2’s 13 episodes are already ordered), Pavi’s story is built to run for years.

For a nine-year-old carrying the weight of a feared title, a lost leg, a long-lost twin, and a shattered world, Pavi has one of the richest setups any Avatar has ever been given. Whether she becomes the savior the Seven Havens need — or proves her enemies’ fears right — is the question the next four books will answer.
